The sad part is in McCain’s 1st Term Goals speech yesterday, his solutions to the eduction system was Teach for America and new software. While I appreciate the efforts of organizations likeTeach for America, I don’t think it should be the main solution.

While I acknowledge the specific needs of Black students in the education system “studies” like these distort the reality that all children are ostricized for being nerds or different. This is not a Black problem (Tsyon, 2000) and I am really tired of politicians and others trying to make it so.
The assumtpion made from this study:

He found that for white pupils, the higher their grades, the more popular they were. But blacks with good grades had fewer black friends than their mediocre peers. In other words, studiousness is stigmatised among Black schoolchildren.

is far reaching at best. Did anyone think that maybe the Black kids with good grades had fewer Black friends because they were the only Black student in their AP Calculus class and simply know fewer Black kids!

We can not pathologize evrything that Black youth do sometimes it really ain’t a “Black thing”!
