YG Book Club: Infidel - Ayaan Hirsi Ali

24 06 2008

I’ve been aware of Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s story since my first visit 2 AMS back in 2004. I never really followed it closely for some reason. My gal pal Keisha has been raving about this book for the past few days. As a result, yesterday I went 2 the library & picked it up for my educational consumption & so far I’m impressed. :-)

Coolhunting: Chasing down the Next Big Thing

30 05 2008

I just wrapped reading another book. Shout out 2 Kim 4 letting me borrow “Coolhunting”. What did I think? :-) The book was an interesting read & very insightful with regards 2 seeing (foresight) & understanding trends. I found the book 2 be a bit 2 academic and dry in some areas, which could present a potential challenge.

The Culture Code: An Ingenious Way to Understand why People around the World Live and Buy as They Do

22 05 2008

Shout out 2 OG Stan 4 putting me on 2 this book. The impact of culture with regards 2 doing business in emerging markets was a big part of my thesis paper. I firmly believe that lack of cultural understanding is a key reason y some businesses are not able to flourish in foreign markets.

Do Travel Writers Go to Hell?: A Swashbuckling Tale of High Adventures, Questionable Ethics, and Professional Hedonism

22 04 2008

I just finished reading this book last night per Miss Grant. -) It was a pretty interesting read & provided me with many flashback moments from my global travels. This book highlights the ups & downs of international travel from a very honest perspective. From meeting a damsel @ the airport for a little “love & touch” to having $100 bucks 2 ur name in country where English is not widely spoken, this book runs the gambit. -)

I definitely saw a lot of not so “hot” parallels, but also reflected on many of the rewards that you receive as a result of truly immersing yourself in a foreign culture.  There is a big difference btn visiting a country & immersing yourself in the experience. I prefer the later…  One day I might regale the world with the true stories of Young Global…lol!  This is a good book 2 add to your summer reading list. -!YG

The Art of Seduction

21 03 2008

The Art of Seduction is more strategy as opposed to a relationship book. The ability to beguile and create progressive situations for yourself is an important skill to develop. Many people are naturally  gifted with this talent, but it still needs to be nurtured.

We sometimes define  this characteristic as charisma, but it has a symbiotic relationship with seduction. You just have to look at this book in a more abstract form and not the literal. This book is a great read.  ;-) -!YG  [CLICK 2 READ MORE]

Purple Cow

5 02 2008

I’m half way thru this book. Purple Cow is one of those books that all marketers or folks looking 2 create a significant point of difference should check out. The premise of the book is 2 encourage folks 2 take managed risk towards creating remarkable ideas.

The clutter in today’s marketplace requires companies & individuals 2 go “left of center” in order 2 be noticed. Unfortunately a lot of folks take these suggestions a bit 2 far & end up looking corny.
